Mole Removal Solutions at We-Care Clinic

Mole removal consultation and skin assessment at WeCare Clinic Kuala Lumpur

Regardless of whether there have been any changes to your mole, whether it causes a feel of irritation when it comes into contact with clothing, or you just wish to have your mole removed for cosmetic reasons alone, here at WeCare Clinics, we will remove moles at our clinics which are situated in KL, Ukay Boulevard, Desa Melawati, and Setiawangsa.

While most moles are completely harmless, it is important to get them assessed before undergoing any procedures to ensure their removal is safe.

When Mole Removal Is Recommended

Two main categories for which moles can be removed include health-related concerns or cosmetic preferences. The doctors at our office determine the type of case you have during consultation.

Criteria showing why a mole needs to be evaluated according to the ABCDE criteria:

  • Asymmetry – one side of the mole does not resemble the other side
  • Border – an irregular, ragged border as opposed to a round and smooth one
  • Colour – variation in colour, including more than one colour in the same mole
  • Diameter – a diameter of about 6 mm in size, or similar to that of a pencil eraser
  • Evolving – change in the size, shape, colour, or other aspects of the mole

Other reasons why a patient might want a mole removal procedure:

  • Painful or itchy moles
  • In a site where there is irritation due to clothing, shaving, or friction
  • Cosmetic problem for the patient regardless of the health risk

A mole that meets the above criteria will usually be recommended for removal partly because it will enable further testing of the sample.

Mole Removal Methods

Method How It Works Best For
Surgical excision The mole is excised, sometimes along with a small area of surrounding tissue, and this area may be sutured shut Larger moles or those which show any symptoms that might require a sample of tissue for testing
Shave removal The mole is carefully shaved flush with the skin surface using a surgical blade Smaller, raised moles where the growth is more superficial

The Procedure

Step What Happens
Consultation & Assessment Doctor performs examination of mole and asks you about your reason for mole removal
Local Anaesthesia Area is made numb prior to procedure so that the pain can be avoided
Removal Mole is removed by either shaving or excision technique as required
Closure (as necessary) In case of excision, the area can be closed up with stitches
Dressing & Aftercare Instructions Doctor applies dressing to the area and gives you aftercare instructions

Recovery and Aftercare

  • Maintain cleanliness and dryness, as instructed by your physician
  • Do not scratch the scab if one develops because it will worsen the scars
  • Guard the area from sunlight while healing since this may change the way it scars
  • Have a follow-up appointment if you have to have stitches removed
  • Be vigilant for signs of infection including redness, swelling, or drainage, and schedule another appointment immediately if these happen

Some amount of scarring occurs regardless of the removal surgery; however, this fades over time and depends on various aspects including mole size and location.

Who Should Consider a Mole Check

  • Anyone who possesses a mole with any changes such as in size, shape, colour or texture
  • Individuals with a family history of skin cancer or a past with atypical moles
  • Fair-complexioned patients, or individuals with excessive history of sun exposure who are at increased risks
  • Anyone who has more than 50 moles on his/her body, which requires slightly more attention
  • Patients who would like a troublesome or cosmetically unattractive mole evaluated and removed

Even if there are no signs of a change in the mole, if a mole is troublesome or causes confidence issues by itself, it’s a good enough reason to consider removal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is mole removal painful?

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia; therefore, you will not experience pain during the process, although some pressure may occur.

Will my mole grow back after removal?

For most patients who undergo the surgical removal of their moles, there is no likelihood that they will ever grow back. In some cases, however, the moles may regrow, although this is dependent on the procedure used to remove the mole.

Can I get a mole removed just for cosmetic reasons?

Absolutely. Removal of moles for cosmetic purposes is one of the main reasons for doing this procedure, aside from moles that are being removed because of a medical problem.

Will I need a biopsy after removal?

The answer will vary depending on the kind of mole, and whether your doctor suspects something abnormal with the mole.
